Commercial Outdoor Lighting

Commercial outdoor lighting is a specific type of light designed for businesses. While bright parking lot lights are a type of commercial outdoor lighting, this classification would also include things like outdoor wall lighting on the sides of business, landscape and pathway lighting at hotels, parks and resorts, outdoor spotlighting at a restaurant, and any type of outdoor lighting used by a business.  Most businesses will have special contractors who specialize in this type of work install their lighting.

Because most commercial outdoor lighting extends beyond a single light, sometimes into large networks of lighting and many different types of lighting, a commercial contractor is necessary to get the job done correctly.  Most businesses, even some small businesses, will have not just outdoor security lights like parking lot lights, but ambient lighting, landscape lighting, wall lighting and even lighting for their sign. Companies that specialize in handling an entire lighting scheme can handle everything, often including maintenance.

Commercial outdoor lighting like parking lot lots are high voltage lighting that requires a contractor to install properly and safely.  And while low voltage outdoor lighting is available in things like landscape lighting, you might consider having high voltage outdoor lighting installed for all your lighting needs even though it’s more expensive and costs more to operate.

The problem with some low voltage lighting is that it’s often dimmer than high-voltage.  If you want landscape or path lighting that glows very softly and providing good illumination isn’t your aim, then you might do well with low voltage lighting like the kind you can purchase in almost any department or home improvement store. But chances are you’ll want brighter illumination at night for your customers.

A path leading to a restaurant, for instance, should be well lit for obvious safety reasons.  Landscape lighting at a resort, designed to illuminate a flower garden or hedges would need to be less so. The low voltage outdoor commercial lighting might be a good choice in a situation like that, but for most places high voltage is required to offer the good illumination needed for the area.

While solar lighting is becoming more and more popular as we become a more environmentally concerned planet, solar outdoor commercial lighting might not be the best choice for most of your lighting needs. The biggest drawback to solar lighting is that it’s unreliable. The lights will need around 8 hours of full sun during the day to charge properly, and that will give them 4 to 6 hours of glowing time at night.  If your commercial enterprise is only available to the public for a few hours after a dark, it might be possible to use solar commercial outdoor lighting.  But on overcast days, you might not get enough light from your solar lights to last.

Commercial outdoor lighting can be used to make a space more beautiful with landscape and effect lighting, but security is a chief concern, too. Get the best lights you can find and have an expert install them.
