Outdoor string lighting

Outdoor string lighting is designed to set a certain type of mood and give your outdoor space a certain ambient glow.  Christmas tree lights are a popular type of string lighting, but there are types of outdoor string lighting that you can purchase and use all year around, whether it’s to add mood to an outdoor gathering or just to light up your deck or patio for after-dinner coffee time every night of the week.

Solar powered outdoor string lighting is a popular choice, especially for those who are environmentally conscious.  The light does require a battery where the energy produced by the sun’s rays is stored and used to power the lights at night.  If the light doesn’t have to be perfect and you don’t need it for several hours each night, these could be a good choice for you.  They won’t be a good option for a covered deck or patio, though, because they require 6 to 8 hours of full sun to fully charge.  On overcast days your solar outdoor string lighting might not glow very long after dark, but if the occasional problem like that makes it worth it for you to not have to plug them in, you should enjoy them.

Electric outdoor string lighting doesn’t have many drawbacks, either.  Of course, you will need to be able to plug it in, and depending on how much lighting you want you might need multiple plugs.  Most outdoor string lighting comes in fairly short sections, so you might need extension cords and other setups if you want to get a lot of light from your string lighting.  But once you figure out where you’ll put it and how you’ll power it, you have many choices so you can get the right type of lighting for your space.

The most basic choice is whether you want clear lights or colored.  Colored outdoor string lights aren’t just for Christmastime! Parties and outdoor gatherings can appear more festive with colored lights, or you could choose certain colors to match a different holiday theme like Valentine’s Day or the 4th of July. Bulbs can also be clear or frosted, giving you variety even when it comes to non-colored lighting.
The choice of styles can go on and on, too, so you might have a hard time narrowing down the type of outdoor string lighting that you want.  While there’s a great variety in the colors and color schemes offered, there’s also a huge variety in the types of bulbs.  Globe-shaped bulbs are a popular choice in outdoor string lighting, with each bulb appearing perfectly round, but you’re not limited to that. 

You can choose outdoor string lighting that has bamboo around each light, for instance, or some that look like each light is surrounded by a gemstone or bead.
