Contemporary Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting, just like indoor lighting, is available in a wide variety of styles, and contemporary outdoor lighting is one of the most popular. Regardless of the style of your home, contemporary outdoor lighting fixtures can enhance the space and even offer a little surprise if you’re blending more than one style in your outdoor décor.
If you have a house that was designed in a particular style or your outdoor décor was heavily influenced by a particular style, then you may want to choose outdoor lighting to continue that theme. A mission wall sconce or one with a southwest flavor, for instance, will look great with your similar décor. But if you like a more modern style, even if your outdoors is decorated in a different theme, consider contemporary outdoor lighting.
Because so many different types of light fixtures fall under the umbrella of contemporary outdoor lighting, you can probably find a fixture that’s contemporary in style but blends well with the theme you already have established in your home. Often you can find contemporary outdoor lighting that will mimic another theme but add modern touches. If you have a mission-type theme around your home, for instance, a contemporary sconce that mimics those fixtures but is done in metal could look great next to your front door.
If you have a theme in your garden statuary or decorative stones in interesting shapes or colors, your wall sconce could mimic that shape or design in a decidedly contemporary style. If your mailbox is ornate, contemporary outdoor lighting like a pole light at the end of your driveway can mimic the style but in more modern materials, or be made from a similar looking material but in a more contemporary shape, size or color.
When choosing contemporary lighting for your front door light or lights if you have one on each side, be sure to take into consideration the kind of illumination the light offers. While the design is an important characteristic, of course, the lighting here is important, too. At night, your lit entryway is one of the first things people will notice about your home.
Contemporary outdoor lighting around your front door is also the first impression you’ll give to people coming inside your home, even if it’s not at night. During the day time, visitors will still notice your contemporary light sconces as they enter your home, so you want to make sure your choice of design gives the impression you want both at night and during the day.
Consider the brightness of the lights, too, and make sure it’s right for your entryway. You don’t want it to be too bright or harsh on your visitors, but illumination that’s too low not only makes it dangerous for them when trying to approach your door, but it offers less security for you, too. So when you choose contemporary outdoor lighting, don’t choose form completely over function. Shop around to find the right design with just the right illumination.
